Snow!!

We finally have snow!!!
Winterville earned its name today as a winter storm arrived. Predictions were from 2-8 inches and we are nearing 6 inches right now.
Our neighbors, The Carnes, came over and we all built a snowman in our driveway. His name is Frosty I believe. As you can see, he's definitely in the snow party spirit.

Enjoy the pictures of all the fun in the snow!

Shiver me timbers...

Global warming...What!? It's been awhile since our last post. Soraya thankfully is feeling fine now after last Saturday's fever. If you are unaware of one of our blog features, scroll to the bottom of the page and you can see our local weather forecast anytime. As you can see, it's darn cold here! Low of 18 tonight (Thursday) and Friday calls for a high of only 32 and a low of 9. At the very least, a bit of snow would make the chill more bearable...BRRRRR!!

Well, we taped "The Office" tonight and we are about to go watch it. Our number 1 favorite show "24" returns Monday night. Scott just placed the 24 ringtone on his cell. It's the ring for the CTU telephones.

Stay warm wherever you might be reading this!

Mish Medical!

We had a bit of a scare today with Soraya. We all got up as usual this morning, ate breakfast, Scott ground and brewed his coffee, and everything was normal. About an hour later, Soraya stopped playing and just wanted to lay down. Soraya is always on the go and this was very unusual. We noticed she was warm and took her temperature. It turned out around 102 degrees!

We gave her some Motrin and she snuggled up on the couch. After a few Hermie the Common Caterpillar videos, we had some lunch. She ate pretty well, but she still ran a temperature. She went down for nap and slept very well. We took her temperature after nap and it was down to 99.2. She got up and immediately wanted some crackers and cheese...her FAVORITE!

She seems to be fine now and her temperature is back to normal. We will continue to monitor the situation. Hopefully, it's some sort of 24 hour bug.

The night the lights went out in...

Winterville. Yes, the lights blackened shortly after 6 pm tonight as raging forces of wind gusted down the Addington Drive corridor. No, you would expect such brutal gasps of air from a hurricane, but in January? While we live in the eastern part of NC - easily prone to its share of hurricanes, this was simply a cold front passing through. Thankfully, the trash detail whisked away our garbage this morning before the storm came (was not the case last week!)

As you can see, we three had a nice candlelight dinner of spaghetti with (turkey) meat sauce, salad, and garlic bread. The electrical currents did re-start around 7pm but it was nice while it lasted.
The picture is a bit fuzzy, but you can get the idea.

We had a breakthrough tonight as Soraya asked...FOR SECONDS! For those of you not up to date on our three year old's refusal to eat lately, this was a momentous occasion. In fact, Soraya ate her spaghetti (two helpings) and her carrot sticks! For that, she received two Oreo cookies! Hooray!!

Sunday School Party

Our Sunday School class (The Encouragers) had a New Year's get-together/party Saturday night. We had a great time over at the home of one of our Sunday School class members. Alysse made her homemade chocolate truffle balls to bring along. Some women in the young married's class watched all of the kids at the church for us...Thanks! Unfortunately, I guess that means we aren't "young" marrieds anymore!

Soraya watched "Horton Hears A Who?", ate pizza, and reportedly ran around the church fellowship hall and had a blast during her party too. Hopefully, we will be able to arrange some more of these outings in the near future.

Happy New Year and please sign our super-duper newfangled guestbook so we know who's stopped by!

High on the Hog (Jowls) 2009

Happy New Year! Hog Jowl 2009 has come and gone...actually it may never return- more in a moment. Here's Scott in his Bulldog attire after watching the cardiac Georgia Bulldogs defeat Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl...
Dawgs 24 Spartans 12. Back to the food...Scott usually makes bacon for our New Year's Day dinner. This year, he bought some hog jowls. For those of you who are not quite sure what "jowls" are, they are the jowls of the hog.  Moving on...Scott fried them up, poured the grease into a pot of turnip greens, and prepared some blackeyed peas too. Alysse made some corn muffins and off we were! Scott says he felt like he consumed enough salt and fat for half of 2009! It was delicious but something that might be good to limit once per year. Next year, Scott is returning to bacon for this New Year's Day occasion.

Hope you all are enjoying the blog and may you all have a blessed 2009. Maybe we will get some snow before spring arrives. By the way, Bella just hopped into my lap...she is asking me to say "Hello" or meow in her language.

That's all for now...again Happy New Year!
